Bergesen Joins RM Wolff as Senior Manager

Eric Bergesen has been named a senior manager with RM Wolff, LLC, a Nashville-based regional valuation and forensic services firm. Bergesen’s experience includes merchant banking, mergers and acquisitions, valuation services and raising capital. Laroy Wolff, who heads RM Wolff, LLC, said Bergesen has exceptional experience in an increasingly important area of business in today’s financial arena.

“Eric has accomplished remarkable things in his career, and our clients will benefit from the insight, judgment and experience he brings to the firm,” Wolff said.

Bergesen was part of a team that served as financial damage experts for Dr. Gary Michelson in his intellectual property lawsuit against Medtronic, Inc. Dr. Michelson, a Los Angeles, California back surgeon, agreed to a $1.4 billion settlement from Medtronic over rights to spinal implant instruments and other devices.

Orthopedic and Dental Industry News called the judgment the “largest one-time intellectual property award in U.S. history.”

Part of Bergesen’s work included valuation of Dr. Michelson’s intellectual property portfolio.   Bergesen has worked on public equity, mergers and acquisitions, and private placement transactions in the education, healthcare, and transportation industries. Bergesen, 40, has a Bachelor’s Degree in English and Economics from Cornell University; a master’s degree in English from Louisiana State University, and an MBA from Vanderbilt University’s Owen Graduate School of Business, from which he graduated in the top five percent of his class.  

In 2004, he was awarded an AVA (Accredited Valuation Analyst) designation by the National Association of Certified Valuation Analysts (NACVA). He is on the boards of the March of Dimes of Middle Tennessee and First Steps, Inc., located in Nashville.
